Our Priorities
“As a student for the past twelve years in Portland Public Schools (PPS), I have seen and heard the challenges that our students, educators, and families face.
We need leaders who have the experience of what our students are facing when making decisions, involve our community and partners, and hold others accountable. Students should be prioritized over profits and we must ensure every decision being made benefits our students.
Through my conversations with parents, administrators, educators, classified staff, community partners, and especially our students, I see the priorities below reflect what is needed in our schools.”

Jorge is committed to fighting the inequities occurring in our schools as every student should have access to the same opportunities as everyone else— no matter their background or who they are. Our schools need to be places where our communities can come together, where our students are thriving, and where everyone feels both safe and welcoming.
-
Our communities are stronger together and must be part of our schools environments. Jorge will advocate our schools to continue to host events that bring people together, celebrate cultures, fund our PTAs, and support our student leadership/government activities who are promoting school spirit.
Jorge wants to promote transparency when it comes time to deciding budget matters, board policies, among so much more. Jorge will focus on being a true community liaison to bring up community issues and find solutions to better our schools.
-
In the past couple of years as an educational advocate, Jorge has seen unions, parents, students, and other groups not fully be part of the decision making process at the district level. Jorge will take actions towards bringing back trust between the school board and the community through communication on what is happening in our schools.
Jorge believes that our dollars should go into our schools where our students are. He will fight for greater financial oversight, work to put our needs over our wants, advocate at the state level to fully fund our schools, and find alternative ways to fund education.
-
Jorge has seen first hand the challenges facing our schools and is committed to finding solutions to solve chronic absenteeism, improving our literacy/test scores, expanding both our CTE (Career and Technical Education) and language immersion programs.
