About Jorge

Jorge Sanchez Bautista is a student leader, community organizer, and long-time educational advocate. He first became involved in 2017, when gentrification and rent spikes hit his neighborhood, Cully. He became part of the Normandy apartments movement in 2017 as a 10 year old with his family, friends, and neighbors. Since then, Jorge has been fighting for social issues including climate change, transportation equity, gun violence prevention, educational funding, police accountability, and more.

As a son of immigrants, Hispanic, Indigenous, a youth, and a Queer individual, he hopes to bring the voices of underserved communities to the PPS Board. With experience passing legislative bills, advocating for change, and being a student in Portland Public Schools all of his life, he is ready to bring change and advocate for all.
